Just to clarify: We are currently putting together the 3 year delivery plan (ie actual projects) which form part of the broader LIP/Transport Strategy. While Kings X has not been prioritised for next financial year (2011-12), it is one of the priority areas where we will be working over the next 3-5 years. So we are seeking your input into what the problems (and solutions) are in the area, and which can be included in our programme of work. This needs to be with us asap.

I attended the council meeting to see Ricci de Freitas' deputation with five other MA members, one of whom had been hurt at the intersection.
Councillor Chris Knight, executive member for environment and streets (chris.knight@camden.gov.uk) took responsibility to address the emergency situation; speed reduction, removing left turns and long term redesign of the intersection were discussed. 7.30pm, 15 May 09 Camden Town Hall

Well done on a fascinating and comprehensively documented walk! I wasn't able to join you, as I was leading another walk from Newington Green church to the graveyard, for the tombstone tribute at 4pm, which went very well.

Your walk has a secret circular connection. No biographer, as far I know, has commented on the coincidence that Gandhi lived on the same street as Wollstonecraft, a hundred years later. This was Store Street, off Tottenham Court Road: Bloomsbury has of course been an area associated with intellectual life since at least the founding of the British Museum, which opened in the 1750s, and Wollstonecraft moved around a lot, so it is not surprising to find her there for a year or so. Gandhi spent several years (1888-1891 IIRC) in London as a young man, studying to be a lawyer, and lodging with a boiled-cabbage landlady on that street.

Did he know of his illustrious predecessor? Unlikely, but possible. His vow to his devout Hindu mother to remain vegetarian led him to the Vegetarian Society and thence to the Theosophists. Certainly some of the British people he met through these organisations would have been aware of Wollstonecraft -- Millicent Fawcett led her rehabilitation by writing the introduction to the 1890 edition of Vindication. It is an intriguing connection.
